I remembered saving hard during my college days for my first purchase of JUWEL Aquarium, RIO 125, in the early 1990s for a freshwater planted tank setup. Attracted to its complete and neat design and system, I personally thought that no other aquarium tank during then was able to match this product in terms of quality and price, especially the glass. JUWEL has been in the aquarium market for over 35 years in aquarium manufacturing in Germany and have received many good reviews from satisfied customers for its beauty, quality and simplicity. All JUWEL aquariums come complete with built-in filter, heating sytem. A very elegant and popular aquarium for people new to the hobby. JUWEL aquariums... Read more»
Singapore formulated phosphate (PO4) for marine aquarium is launched into the local market, and it is “goodbye! PO4“. goodbye! PO4 is a liquid phosphate remover which operates hand in hand with a protein skimmer or a mechanical filter. It works by binding active phosphate molecules, turning them into inert particulates which become unusable for further biological processes. That means it is unavailable as a nutrient for algae growth and will not affect corals’ well being. The particulate suspension is subsequently removed from the aquarium system by protein skimming and/or through the mechanical filter. Understanding Phosphate (PO4): Phosphorous is an essential element in all living... Read more»
Brian Ong has posted a product review on June 17, 2009 at FnM online store about FnM Cubic 24″ x 12″ x 18″ 6mm Normal Asahi Glass (Euro-Bracing) after his purchase. “A good tank for its price. Euro bracing is done only on the sides (unlike some fish tanks) so hang on filters, etc. can still be used. The green tint of normal glass is obvious to the eagle eyed, but looking at the price, you cannot complain. The height of the tank is just right; it adds the feeling of depth to the tank. This was what i liked most about the tank.” Thanks to Brian for his wonderful review. FnM Cubic is available at FnM online store. SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "FnM Cubic... Read more»
As previously mentioned, in a counter-current protein skimming system, air is forced into the system under pressure and moves against the flow of the water for a while before it rises up towards the collection cup. There are various types of skimming which falls under this catergory: Adrian-Wheel/Needle-Wheel/Mesh-Wheel, Downdraft, Beckett skimmer and Spray Injection. Specially worth mentioned here is the Spray Injection protein skimming process. Unlike other forms of skimming, spray injection method enables huge amounts of air and water to be processed with a relatively small pump. Imagine yourself washing a car – you’ve got a bucket full of soapy water and a garden hose with a fast-moving... Read more»
Introducing Henry’s Reef Gourmet! Why Probiotic? Probiotic microorganisms (beneficial bacteria) and harmful pathogenic organisms are found naturally in our environment as well as in the digestive system and other areas of animal body including fish & invertebrates. When an intestinal infection occur, harmful pathogens act destructively against the function of the digestive system , negating the health of the infected fish. Unless an effective treatment is performed, the fish may eventually perish. Oftentime, a broad spectrum medication or antibiotic is used to treat such infection. However, while such medication are effective against harmful pathogens, important intestinal microorganisms... Read more»
JBJ MEGA powered 28g Nano-Cube HQI-Reef Series incorporates many high-tech features not commonly found in “All-In-One” systems. The new concept behind the 28g Nano-Cube HQI was inspired by hundreds of reef hobbyists who requested higher powered lighting, protein skimming, increased water circulation, a more simplified filter, storage area in the stand for chillers, and designated water level columns in the rear chambers for heaters, refugiums and protein skimmers. JBJ K-2 Viper HQI Clamp-on Lamp Series offers a streamline design to fit on virtually any small reef tank (eg. Nano-Cube) or use it in series for larger aquariums. RowaPhos is a unique and patented, man made ferric hydroxide material chemically engineered for the efficient removal of phosphates, arsenic and silicates from fresh and salt water, having initially been developed in Germany for treating mains water supplies. RowaPhos should not be confused with natural materials, which are generally based on aluminium oxide, (zeolite) or even other iron based products which claim to be the same product from other manufacturers. RowaPhos claimed to have the largest absorption ability of any phosphate product worldwide and will not leach back in to the water. This saves the need for immediate removal once the media is exhausted. The product is easy to use and... Read more»
When constructing an aquarium glass tank, the aquarium hobbyist may choose between two types of glass to make from: Float or Crystal Glass. Clear Float Glass is made of molten glass which flows through tweel to tin bath and then to lehr. While floating through the molten tin, the glass under the works of gravity and surface tension becomes smooth and flat on both sides. Ultra clear float glass/low iron glass is also named Crystal Clear Glass, for they have higher light transmittance (91%) and transparency. Can you note the difference between the two types of glasses laid side by side while viewed from the side of the glass panel? While Crystal Glass is crystal clear and nice to look at, it...
